ABSTRACT

This European Standard gives guidelines for the measurement of the fine particle fraction of the aerosol, in particular for the determination of the number concentration of ultrafine aerosols and nanoaerosols in the workplace using condensation particle counters (CPC). This European Standard deals with the basics of the operation of CPCs, problems of sampling in the workplace environment, aspects for the selection of a suitable measuring device, application limits, the use of different working fluids and technologies, calibration, maintenance of the device, measurement uncertainty and specification of measurement results. It describes potential problems and limitations that are important when taking measurements in the workplace.
