Asian Focus on Nanotechnology Research

Around 10 % of the total scientific publications are devoted to nanotechnology in 2019, where 10 Asian countries have a larger share than this average, reflecting the special attention of Asian countries to publish in this field of science and technology.

Nearly ninety thousand articles on nanotechnology were indexed in the Web of Science (WoS) database by the middle of 2019, accounting for about 10 % of all scientific publications in this year. As in recent years, China, the United States, India, Iran, and South Korea are the top 5 countries in terms of nanotechnology publications.

Around 60 percent of the whole nano-articles belong to Asian countries, which reflects the high priority of these countries in the production and promotion of nanoscience. The local share indicator shows the percentage of nano-articles to all of the articles in a country. According to "StatNano" statistics, nine of the top ten countries in this indicator are Asian, and their share is larger than the average share of nanotechnology publications to all scientific publications in 2019. The European countries, which have 24 % of nano-articles in 2019, are in the following ranks.
