Nanotechnology Patents: Number and Annual Growth Rate in EPO (2001-2022)

Approximately 35,000 patents were granted in nanotechnology in European Registration Office (EPO) since 2001. As figure shows, an increasing trend is observed for registration process until 2019. However, this increasing trend has stopped since 2019. The average annual growth of nanotechnology-related patents registration in EPO was 11.5%. The highest growth of 42% was observed in 2016 for registration of these patents.
