In 2024, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) granted over 10,250 patents, with the United States receiving nearly 44% of these. The next five top countries for USPTO patent applications were all located in Asia. South Korea secured second place, followed by China, Taiwan and Japan. Saudi Arabia claimed the sixth position, marking its growing focus on innovation. Notably, Saudi Arabia has significantly invested in nanotechnology in recent years, with approximately 17% of its USPTO-registered patents in 2024 falling within the nanotechnology sector. Taiwan is the runner-up in this aspect with a 6.2 percent share.
