Toraphene's Graphene-enhanced Bags Replace Ordinary Plastic Bags at London's S. & A. Hart

Toraphene has shared a real-world milestone: S. & A. Hart, one of the top seafood vendors at London’s Billingsgate Market, has replaced all their plastic carrier bags with custom Toraphene compostable bags.

Toraphene explained that seafood packaging is notoriously tough due to factors like heavy loads (that includes sharp tails...), wet conditions etc. For years, S. & A. Hart had no choice but to double-bag everything - which led to using over 50,000 plastic bags a year. Neither paper nor traditional bioplastics could handle the job.

The team at Toraphene engineered a bespoke compostable carrier bag using its V2 material (that is said to include graphene) and is reportedly 48% stronger than leading alternatives. It’s the same next-gen material now used in Toraphene's compostable bin liners.

This managed to eliminate double bagging and plastic waste and is seen by the company to be not only a success story but also proof that its materials are real-world ready.
