Directa Plus PLC, the Italian-based supplier and producer of graphene nanoplatelets has been granted an EU-wide patent for its G+ tech to be used in performance shoes and trainers.
The patent, which will boost the performance of rubber-based shoe outsoles, covers both the formula for the compound and the final product outsole, it said.
"This EU patent will reinforce our position in the fast-growing market for technical footwear, attracting the attention of the major consumer product players,” said the company’s founder and chief executive Giulio Cesareo.
The formulation of G+ graphene provides the ability to balance contrasting performance characteristics including durability and grip in both dry and wet conditions.
The ability to balance opposing performance traits is unique to G+ graphene, it said, while it works best on soles of running, trail running, hiking, and motorbike shoes.
Following this patent, Directa Plus’ intellectual property (IP) portfolio consists of 18 patent families with 72 patents granted and a further 25 pending.
“We will continue to aggressively expand our IP portfolio, covering both production technology and applications, to continue to build value for shareholders," added Cesareo.
