In 2024, the European Patent Office (EPO) awarded 2,934 nanotechnology patents, accounting for nearly 29% of the total patents granted that year by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The United States led globally with 899 patents, while Germany and South Korea ranked second and third, respectively. Japan and China, two additional East Asian nations, also featured prominently among the countries with the highest number of patent filings.
