ABSTRACT
This document specifies the fundamental characteristics to be measured on a sample of engineered nanoparticles in order to determine the size, chemical composition and specific surface area of nanoparticles in powder form. It applies equally well to particles consisting of a core material, surface treated with another material, and to particles which are devoid of it. It also specifies measurement methods for determining each of these characteristics. This document does not deal with characteristics relating to industrial applications of nanoparticles in powder form, nor detailed measurement protocols, as well as characteristics linked to health, safety and environmental issues.
