ABSTRACT

This standard is part of the ISO/TS 80004 series of standards and establishes terms and definitions of concepts in the field of the application of nanotechnology in medicine related to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Terms and definitions of concepts in the field of the application of nanotechnology in medicine may be established in other standards of the ISO/TS 80004 series. This standard includes terms related to the properties of nanomaterials that are used for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Such materials contain nano-objects or themselves have dimensions in the nanoscale. This standard does not apply to:

- terms related to the biological consequences of exposure to nanomaterials (regardless of their intended purpose) on the human body;

- terms related to the description of human health, safety issues, the consequences of exposure to nanomaterials on the environment.

This standard is intended to use agreed-upon and unambiguously understood terms by employees of medical institutions, research and public organizations, manufacturers and consumers of medical devices, patent specialists, representatives of government agencies, etc.
