ABSTRACT

This standard specifies methods for evaluating the bactericidal performance of textiles containing manufactured (metal/metal oxide) nanomaterials (TCMNM). In this standard, "textiles" include fabrics, yarns, and fibers used in the production or finishing process of manufactured nanomaterials. It also specifies protocols for determining the amount of nanomaterials released from textiles after laundering and/or exposure to artificial sweat. This standard only addresses methods for evaluating the antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-odor performance of TCMNM. However, it does not address environmental, health, and safety (EHS) issues related to TCMNM or the use of textiles for therapeutic purposes. Furthermore, it does not address the release of nanomaterials from TCMNM as a result of aging, drying-induced weakening, and wear, although these are considered significant factors in nanomaterial release.
