ABSTRACT

Established by adopting ISO/TS 4988:2022 Nanotechnologies — Toxicity assessment and bioassimilation of manufactured nano-objects in suspension using the unicellular organism Tetrahymena sp., using identical reprinting from the English version of ISO. - Provides a reliable and reproducible method for assessing both the exposure and toxicity of nano-objects (MNOs) using Tetrahymena sp., ingested MNOs, indicated by water exposure. - Intended for use by all agencies working with nano(ecological) toxicity of MNOs and capable of culturing Tetrahymena sp. This method uses Tetrahymena sp. to assess the exposure and effects of MNOs. Furthermore, the method can be used by agencies (laboratories) interested in investigating the bioassimilation of MNOs with living cells. - This method is applicable to nano-objects such as nanoparticles, nanofibers of various sizes (in the µm range), nanosheets, as well as both compacted and compacted aggregates of these materials.
