Workplace exposure - Characterization of ultrafine aerosols/nanoaerosols - Determination of number concentration using condensation particle counters

This standard provides guidelines for measuring the fine fraction of an aerosol, in particular for determining the "concentration number" of ultra-fine and nano-aerosol aerosols in the workplace by using a counter of condensation particles (CPC). This standard examines: the working principle of the CPC, the problems of sampling in the workplace, the aspects for choosing the right instrument, the limits of the application, the use of different working fluids and technologies, the calibration, instrumentation maintenance, measurement uncertainty, and how to report instrumental results. The potential problems and limitations that are relevant for measurements in the workplace are also described.
