ABSTRACT

This standard describes a standardized method for determining particle number concentrations in ambient air up to approximately 107 cm-3 (10 million per cubic centimeter) with a measurement time of 1 minute or more. The method is based on the use of a Condensation Particle Counter (CPC) operating in counting mode and a suitable dilution system for concentrations exceeding the counting capacity. It also defines the characteristics and minimum requirements of the instrumentation used. The smallest and largest dimensions considered in this method range from 10 nm to a few micrometers, respectively. The standard describes sampling, operations, data processing, and quality control (QA/QC) procedures, including calibration parameters.
