What really happens during catalysis with platinum-rhodium nanoparticles

A new study shows how platinum core-rhodium shell nanoparticles change during catalysis. Rhodium atoms partly diffuse inward but mostly stay on the surface and oxidise, with behaviour shaped by the orientation of the nanoparticle facets.
