Gearing up nanoscale machines

Researchers from NAIST, in partnership with research teams at University Paul Sabatier, designed nanoscale cogwheels that will enable visualization of rotational snapshots by scanning tunneling microscopy. Such advances are essential for visualizing and confirming the operation of intermolecular gear trains at work.
