Nanoplastics unexpectedly produce reactive oxidizing species when exposed to light

New research shows how the photochemical reaction of nanoplastics through light absorption generates peroxyl and superoxide radicals on nanoplastic surfaces, and initiates oxidation of manganese into manganese oxide solids.
