ABSTRACT

The standard specifies the characteristics to be measured of magnetic microspheres in suspension and powder for nucleic acid extraction applications. The standard addresses magnetic microspheres that contain a substantial amount of magnetic nanoparticles (which may be superparamagnetic). Potential applicable measurement methods are listed for individual characteristics. In particular, the standard lists the critical characteristics of magnetic beads and suspensions and additional characteristics to describe magnetic beads and suspensions for nucleic acid extraction. Health, safety and environmental aspects of magnetic microspheres are outside the scope and scope of the standard.
