Abstract: Cerion Advanced Materials, Executive Vice President Doug Singer was invited by the National Nanotechnology Initiative (NNI) to discuss important considerations in quality control and how they impact the scale-up and manufacturing of nanomaterials in a webinar titled 'Technology Pathways Toward Commercializing Nanotechnology'.

The webinar, which was broadcast live on September 19, 2018, builds on NNI's Technology Pathways workshop that was held in November last year, and directly supports NNI's goal of fostering the transfer of new technologies into products for commercial and public benefit.

Singer was joined by Katherine Barton, Laboratory and Production Manager of Nano-C, Inc. and the two engaged in a dialogue about the criticality of and issues surrounding quality control in the production of nanomaterials. NNCO Director, Dr. Lisa Friedersdorf moderated the discussion.

In nanomanufacturing: Fail fast. Learn from your failures, loop back, and fix the problem;Expect that anywhere from 25 percent to the entire technical team in a small company will play a role in the quality control process; andTake advantage of the ecosystem in your geographic area: companies, research institutions, and government-supported infrastructure. Engage the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) for access to environmental, health, and safety resources.

The National Nanotechnology Coordination Office (NNCO) holds webinars periodically to share information with the nanotechnology research and development community and the general public.
