Their common goal is to investigate the creation and commercialization of graphene-based polymer masterbatch and compounds with unmatched electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding capability for the production of electronic enclosures.

This new product line will begin with a thermoplastic made of graphene that can be used as a stunning medium-high and high-frequency EMI shielding solution for 5G and beyond.

The collaboration combines Hubron International’s experience as a specialist in black masterbatch and conductive polymers for Electric and Electronics components with Graphenest’s knowledge of graphene synthesis, the creation of shielding solutions, and IP expertise.

Graphenest, a nanotechnology company, has been a partner in the NeuroStimSpinal project, which has been creating materials for the recuperation of spinal cord injuries, and has been an affiliated member of the Graphene Flagship since 2017.

Graphenest offers conductive graphene-based EMI shielding solutions for the electronics and automotive industries. Its primary objective is to replace metals with affordable, extremely lightweight, and environmentally friendly conductive coatings and plastic systems.

Leading masterbatch expert Hubron International operates on a worldwide scale. They provide a wide range of specialty grades, such as conductive compounds, engineering masterbatches, specialty polymers, and additive masterbatches containing graphene, graphite, and other materials to improve end-product attributes and performance.

New work in this area has made it possible for the market to adopt graphene-based shielding solutions in lieu of old-metal enclosures, which are often dense, rigid, and time and energy-consuming.

The usage of polymeric compounds based on graphene that can effectively shield high concentrations of microwaves and millimeter waves (5G/6G) will be crucial in the near future. We are observing a rise in interest, mostly because more electronics and e-mobility devices are linking to one another. As a result, we can no longer completely rely on traditional, unsustainable metals.

Bruno Figueiredo, Co-Chief Executive Officer, Graphenest

In light of this, the partnership between Graphenest and Hubron is highly appreciated.

The combination between Graphenest technology and Hubron’s masterbatch and compound expertise will boost the innovation towards the best conductive polymers, specially made for the E-mobility and Electronics industries.

Robert Laurent, Technical Director, Hubron International

Graphene Flagship is interested to see how this new partnership will expand the variety of coatings and plastic compound products available on the market.
