ABSTRACT

This standard was prepared to address the following issues: - Nanometer diameter and nanometer structures Part of an aerosol is associated with occupational exposures to particles (collectively referred to as nano aerosols, including some of the particles generated as a byproduct of industrial processes, and also commonly referred to as ultrafine aerosols). Increased interest in potential health risks. - lack of current guidelines and standards that can be applied to minimize health hazards; - the need to establish valid sampling methodologies as part of the process of establishing appropriate exposure and exposure monitoring standards. The main objective is to ensure that occupational health professionals and researchers And providing preliminary knowledge and sampling guidelines to effectively characterize and monitor nano aerosol exposure in the workplace before standards are developed and implemented. Business nano-aerosols usually represent a sort of suspended matter that is dominated by particles (individual particles or aggregates) with diameters less than 100 nm. This standard includes guidance on characterizing exposure to nano-aerosol in the workplace and indicates recent trends with emphasis on nanometer particles. Preliminary knowledge of industrial processes related to nano aerosol formation and transport reaction mechanisms and nano aerosol exposure in the work environment is provided. Exposure metrics suitable for nano aerosols are discussed, and specific methods for characterizing the exposures associated with these metrics are addressed. Specific information is provided on the characterization of bulk aerosols and methods for single particle analysis.
