Nanotechnology is based on manipulation and control of nanomaterials and in fact, nanomaterials are the cornerstones of the new technology. “Nanomaterials Database” is StatNano new service launched with the aim to introduce different types and morphologies of nanomaterials and monitor the trend of publications, patents and commercialization of these materials in recent years. Mission of the database is collecting, analyzing, and publication the information on nanomaterials in various aspects of science, technology and commerce. In this database, the nanomaterials are divided into different categories according to a certain international standard. Whereas these categories consider the morphology and a variety of nanomaterials, they do not include the chemical composition. According to ISO/TS 80004-1, the nanomaterials are classified into two general groups: (i) nano-objects, and (ii) nanostructured materials. A nano-object is a substance one of whose dimensions is at the nanoscale and can be classified into three-dimensional, two-dimensional, and one-dimensional nano-objects. Conversely, the nanostructured materials are ones whose dimensions are not at the nanoscale, but one of their components is nano-object, or they have a microscopically /morphologically nanoscale structure. In this database, each nanomaterial has a profile in which the definitions, pertinent images, statistics of related articles and patents, as well as resultant products are given. The standard definitions or peer reviewed sources are used as references in providing the definitions for each nanomaterial. It has been preferred to apply real images or schematic figures of each nanomaterial published in the prestigious peer reviewed journals or valid scientific websites with citation to the source. A proper search string was selected for each nanomaterial by studying related articles and patents, and using it, the statistics of articles, patents and citations related to the nanomaterial were retrieved through the international authentic sources and databases such as Web of Science (WoS) and Orbit.
